OBY 1 is a way of thinking and skill game of Magic Soft , which was developed in 1991 for the C64. The player uses a robot and has the task to seal radioactive leaks with stones. This is done either in single player mode or simultaneously with a second player. The two-player levels can be solved in a team or discharged as a duel. Some tasks are as skill exercises, other than brainteasers.
For the 1-player mode, there are 10 scenarios of increasing difficulty to choose from, for the 2 player mode 20 scenarios. These can be selected directly. If a robot repeatedly hit by his opponent or by falling stones, he loses his shirt. This can be produced in the regenerator again.

Design

For a game from 1991 OBY 1 provides a rather simple design. Each scenario is completely visible without scrolling. The robots are equipped with a complex animation and moving stones pull a tail behind him. Each scenario has a different color theme.

Selection of scenarios

The game has no menu as such, in which the individual scenarios are selected, but on a stand-alone Menu scenario. The robot moves to one of the 1-player or 2-player levels and selects the desired scenario from. The game also completely omitted points ratings. If a scenario successfully completed, the robot jumps several times in the air and the menu screen will be rebuilt.

Game Elements

The stones have different ranges:
green stones: one field per step
yellow stones: two fields
blue stones: two fields
red stones: three fields
gray stones: four fields
violet stones: five fields
black stones: six fields

Flashing stones fix stones which are placed before a radioactive leak. You can no longer be removed by the enemy.
Stones can be placed in recesses that can not otherwise be accessed by the robot. In this way, new paths can be constructed that can be done by the robot. Regenerator build the shell of a robot on again when he lost it.

Miscellaneous

Conversions to other systems

The game was developed for the Commodore 64 by Andreas Mettler. The developer in this case was marked also responsible for the graphics, music, and programming of the game. Conversions were created for the Amiga and the Atari ST. Programming this was Mathias Müller and the music was composed by Hans-Hermann Frank. The Amiga version had additional background graphics that were drawn from Pixlers studio from Vienna.

Use of Subliminal technology
The game was experimenting with enhancing motivation Subliminal techniques. As a "subliminal" are referred to the suggestions that have been either acoustically incorporated into the wall of sound so that they are aware of hardly noticed or appear as a visual subliminals for the fraction of a second, so that they remain unknowable. OBY 1 began positive messages such as "Super" or "Great", which were displayed for the fraction of a second on the robot Sprite. This can be seen during the game by a brief flicker in the animation of the character. Whether the subliminal technique actually achieved an effect, is now regarded as scientifically controversial.
